Hai guys, Welcome back to our next journey of Hayuning Yokta, after we explore Panggung Krapyak, in this episode we are going to north side and still connected with “Garis Imajiner”. Before we go to explore, make sure to subscribe, turn on the bell, like, and share this video. You can also send your opinion and critics on the comment Today we are going to explore Kraton Yogyakarta, Have you been there? If you haven’t don’t be sad in this episode we will take you there, and reveal the invisible story of Kraton Yogyakarta.
Bumper Kraton Yogyakarta was built by Prince Mangkubumi or Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono I on 1755 after the giyanti agreement. After the Giyanti agreement, Hamengku Buwono I was borrowing the Ambarketawang guest house from Amangkurat as temporary residence untill Kraton has finished. The decision to establish isn’t just random thought, Hamengku Buwono I choose that place because at that point the “Garis Imajiner” met. The construction of kraton was built by some people not just the member of Kraton itself, The construction built by Portuguese.
It can be seen, the design of Kraton has the European pattern either the accessories or the design.
The form of Kraton is linear based on the Architectural and geometrical and consist of some gates and yards which oriented to north and south axis in common term of human body and the way of improvement in perfection human body. This is based on al-wujud and the seven steps of human form. Kraton has nine gates which is representing human body holes. Based on serat wirid, all the holes should be closed by the process of meditation or in moslem’s funeral.
This term shows that Kraton Jogjakarta has a deep and symbolic meaning especially if it seen from islamic Javanese perspective.
The place where kraton established, long time a go was a village named beringin village where around the village there is already a market that we now know as Beringharjo market. In the determination of Kraton location, Sang Hyang Wenang gives a guidance with the existence of fountain inside the village. The fountain named with umbul Pacetokan. Umbul Pacetokan is a sacred place inside the Kraton and restricted to public. Talk about Kraton, it always be connected to alun alun (plaza), Pendopo in this case is Pagelaran Kraton and Mosque.
The existence of the mosque itself is proof of the Kingdom’s reign in Islam. Kraton Jogjakarta is Sultanate not a kingdom these two things completely different. A kingdom led by a king in hereditary, based on the blood lines. A sultanate led by king based on revelation of The Almighty God, it’s not always based on blood lines.
For the example, when the Hamengku Buwono VII ruled Kraton Jogjakarta and pass to his heir, it takes 3 times in the process.
The final result of the process was his fourth son, Raden Mas Sujadi. There are many stories and history about Kraton Yogyakarta, so, we are going to discuss a view corner that we think interesting from Kraton Yogyakarta. But before we enter the first part, there is a thing that you guys need to know if you are inside Kraton. You will find a middle yard with sand. But it is not ordinary sand though.
Those are mixed sands from the tombs of sunan or wali from Arab, Mecca, Merapi and Parangkusumo. The first corner that interests us is “Gerbang Donopertopo”. This gate looks like usual gate but there is something interesting in the front which there are two statues that represent good and bad. It is means so that we can separate good things and bad things. Another corner that interests us is “Bangsal Sri Manganti.
” This place was used to entertain important guests but now it has been turned into a venue for the Kraton events for tourists. Based on the vision of one of our team, there are some figures that seen in this ward.
Some looked like people wearing suits in the Dutch era, some looked like people that are doing dance moves. Next corner is “Bangsal Kencana”. This place was used as a residence of the King and his family, more like as the King’s private place.
But now it is used as an office and to receive important guests. Another corner is “Gedong Jene”. This building is the only place in Kraton that has multi-storey. “Gedong Jene” was used as a place to live until the period of HB IX, but in Sultan Hamengku Buwono X’s period it is used as a private office.
Next and the most interesting corner to us is “Bangsal Prabayeksa.
” This ward is used to keep relic so that not everybody has access to enter this place even the palace maids. The whereabout of the relic in Kraton is not something that polytheistic, shirk, or even herecy. The relic is actually a symbol of divinity. The other interesting thing is there is a big tree located in “Bangsal Prabayeksa” area. One of our team is succeed to meet and ask permission to one figure that had quite a role in the development of Kraton Yogyakarta and Yogyakarta city.
That figure was a watchman of “Alas Mentaok” that successfully conquered by Panembahan Senopati and given a special place inside Kraton. His name is Kyai Jegot. There must be a lot of questions that you guys think about Kyai Jegot right? We will talk about Kyai Jegot and his story together with Panembahan Senopati in our next adventure on a different segment. So, make sure that you guys subscribe and turn on notifications!
The exact location of “Garis Imajiner” within Kraton Yogyakarta based on the vision of one of our team is located at Siti Hinggil, so when the King who rules at the time sits on Siti Hinggil he will be able to stares straight at Tugu Yogyakarta and Mount Merapi.
This matter relates to the philosophy that we have already told in the “Garis Imajiner” video that the distance between Kraton and Tugu are like seven steps towards The Almighty God. So it’s often said that the highest peak of a king as a sultan is when he sits on Siti Hinggil and staring straight at Tugu and Mount Merapi along with surrenders to The Almighty God. Oh, there is a place outside Kraton that we want to talk about which is North Alun – Alun. The twin banyan trees located in the center of Alun – Alun is actually means as the symbol of prosperity and protection, not as to avert evil like the rumors.
In the past this place was used as a venue, soldier training ground, and some public actions. The most famous action is Tapa Pepe. Based on the flashback vision of one of our team, this action is reconstructed into an illustration that you guys can see. This action was a form of public protest against the policies that apply at that time and this action was done with a purpose of getting the King’s attention whom was sitting on Siti Hinggil.
How about that?
Interesting and add more knowledge to you guys, right? We will head out to the next place for adventure. So, See you on next adventure Thank you.
